Oldie but a goodie! This is probably the coolest Google Maps API use I have seen thus far. This site has managed to get the Google API integrated into a nice flash format where you can start from popular locations. After which point you get to control a little airplane and fly around the world. Very cool, very entertaining.. I myself am wondering if something like this won’t start to catch on more… I love the idea!

Try It

Open Google Earth, press CTRL and G to activate ‘fly’ mode. Now hold your right mouse button and move your mouse ‘up’ to accelerate. Fly with your ‘plane’ by holding the left mouse button and turning it where ever you want to. I suggest fly over alps.

    CTRL-T sets default mode back.

Way better flight sim for you.
