Who is Your Email Provider of Choice?

There are so many options for an email host out there in the world. Do you go free with Google, Yahoo, Hotmail? Do you build your own and use Sendmail? Do you use your ISPs? Run Exchange?

Just curious. We, at UNEASYcentral use Thoughtbus our our email provider of choice. They have had no downtime for as long as we have used them and they have all the added plugins to the Exchange system that allow us to POP, IMAP, BES, and of course Exchange.

So what do you use?

I use gmail mostly, but i also run postfix

Right now I’m using Gmail, but I’m waiting for lavabit (aka nerdshack) to setup IMAP, and I will probably switch over. I really want something that has a lot of space, is with a company I trust, and IMAP. I love Gmail but I want to use a desktop client.

  4. I use Gmail for backup and personal email, but my main work accounts are in my dedicated servers through exim.

Currently I actively use Hotmail and Yahoo and occasionally use AOL. Being a student with no real income, I don’t really need anymore bills so they’re all free:). But its pretty cool cause i’ve managed to use them all with my Mail app on my macbook so I can backup anything needed very easily!

I mainly host my own email (postfix courier-imap) and use zoneedit’s MX backup system to ensure what ever downtime I may suffer will not affect my email. I also use dreamhost (not the most reliable, but cheap as hell) on another domain and gmail for places I know will spam me. On a side note, I use Mail.app’s IMAP-IDLE plugin to reduce the load on my server.

I use the mail provided with my Dreamhost account. BIS works well with it. I used to host it on my net connection at the house, but, didn’t want the Comcast overlords getting angry.

  8. Ian says:

Use Exchange for work, Gmail for personal, and private IMAP for mobile. If only Gmail offered IMAP support…

  9. Jammie says:

I use my ISP’s e-mail for my personal, and Gmail for other stuff.

  10. Andre says:

.Mac, ’cause an @mac.com email rocks.

  11. maique says:

    gmail all the way.
used to have a .mac account, handled by gmail, but i wasn’t even using that, so i just left .mac and all the other accounts i have, ISP included, are forwarded to gmail.

  12. GP says:

Gmail, i stopped using my isp mail as I change isp’s alot

I run gmail and a gTalk on Nokia Nseries. I just text google my number and they sent me file back, opened it, and it installed to all the correct paths. I no longer have to wait to start the computer to read email… Its just so easy. I guess google have deal with Nokia as you can also get the aps from the Nokia site. Just wish wireless data would come down in price.

P.S. Great thing is there is no ads so not sure how google making there money.

  16. I used to run my own server running Postfix and Cyrus IMAP, but I got tired of maintaining it, so now I moved all of my domains to the free Google Apps.

The only down side of this move is that there isn’t imap access.

I’m gonna go with ANDRE, .Mac emails are just cool and I love the full integration between Apple Mail and .Mac and its an IMAP service

I also have an email with U2.com, which is good, but only web-based :(

using GMX cause registered some years ago, then I set up a dedicated server an now the server is fetching all my different mails and provide them via IMAP to me – but all mails got send by the GMX SMTP.

I tend to keep my gmail account for friends, family, and school, but I use a Comcast email for newsletters, forum signups (most of the time) and spam. Although, I hate getting onto the comcast mail, so I decided to use Outlook, as inflexible as it is. I really enjoy what google has done with their services, even though I just use their email and chat. However, they work well together, and as of right now, it is preferred.

gmail and dreamhost for my web hosting and email.
