WordPress Users: Stop Bandwidth Leachers and SpamBots with an Intelligent Plugin

Running a semi popular blog we are faced with a laundry list of problems, the top three being bandwidth leachers, content scrapers, and spam blogs. Fighting back against these threats is near impossible, until now. AntiLeech is a SIMPLE WordPress plugin that works CLOSELY with Akismet (Included in all modern WP installs) to prevent the splogger bots that create SPAM blogs from accessing your site and eating up your precious bandwidth. The plugin produces a fake set of content especially for spambots, using its User-Agent string or by IP address, that includes ONLY links back to your site. You also have the option of adding your own set of IP addresses to which you want to “feed” the fake content. This plugin however, will not effect the regular readers to your site. The only noticeable change that your readers will see is in your sites content feed where a small “AntiLeech” will be loaded that Akismet adds.

The plugin also helps you redirect your feeds to Feedburner (You SHOULD be using them!) without having to muck around in your .htaccess file or use yet another plugin.

I think this an an awesome tool to help fight the battle of content theft and bandwidth leaching.

Awesome! I am so sick of seeing all of my photos and posts repeated verbatim on spam blogs. I hate that crap.

I don’t get any comment spam. Zero. I use this plugin:-

The question is how well does it work?

I’ve been using Spam Karma2 with Akisimet with Peter’s custom anti-spam image plugin and so far I’ve only gotten 1 spam over several weeks when I normally get several hundred in a day. And Doug Karr’s contact plugin stops spam from going through the contact form. No more spam! Woohoo!

At one time I used Bad Behavior but it blocked way too many people. I now don’t use it anymore and don’t notice a difference. I think I’m sticking with what I’ve got until something changes.

But this plugin does look interesting. Let us know how well it works since it does annoy me when splogs are linking to my stuff.
