MacOS X on An XBox?

The video itself shows an Xbox 360 booting into black screen with a stream of command line text, followed by an OS X desktop, and the submitter plugging in an external flash drive into the front USB port. He or she then yanks the drive, and the usual warning about unplugging devices without dismounting them appears in a timely fashion

Real or Fake?

pretty damn convincing I’ll give him that.

  2. Dan says:

Well they do use a “G5″ class processor in there

  3. Jeff says:

Yeah – Are the keyboard and mouse hooked into the back of the 360 or what?

  4. Tensenki says:

Take one Mac Mini, strip and insert into empty 360 body. I mean, it takes 3 seconds to wire this all up. I’m not saying it’s not clever, but when you only have a video, it’s usually hoax…

I would think it is a hoax. If you look carefully, the screen is a computer monitor, and next to it are two speakers, one on each side. It could cleverly be done by putting a 360 next to said monitor, and having some guy off camera doing the actions on the screen.

If it were on a TV, I’d be more convinced. However, since it is on a monitor and on what looks like to be a computer desk, I would guess that its probably just a fake. But I could be wrong.

they make a VGA cable for the 360 ya know

This could be possible, maybe, the Xbox 360 has 512Mb plenty to boot OS X (Tiger needs a min of 256Mb). A (three core) PowerPC processor of course. The only thing that makes me wonder is the somewhat of a BIOS screen at the beginning of the video. OS X might just be running on a differnt PC (OSX86) that we can’t see (in the video).

    Decide for yourself. :-)

Didn’t mean to comment twice.. :D

  13. Jared says:

5 seconds from the time he touches the power button and it lights up, to the first look at the BIOS, seems like a long time to wait to see anything, since the 360 usually has a boot type screen within a second of power. At the very end the shutdown squence seems right, but someone could have just pulled the plug from the external power supply for the 360 to get that effect.

  14. annon says:

I say its real OSX86 running on the 360.
Your just bypassing all the stuff that makes its gaming console and using the computer parts inside. The 360 has way more power then any osx86 project pc iv seen.

This particular video might not be legit, but it is possible:

    @ ANNON

The Xbox 360 cannot be running OSX86 (unless it was stripped of it innards) since it is using a PowerPC based processor (it might be able to run OS X PPC with alot of hacking). They might have stuck a pc (or a mac) in the case though? Who knows. :-)
