Student, sympathetic with VT shooter, gets arrested

A University of Colorado student pleaded not guilty Wednesday to making comments that classmates deemed sympathetic toward the gunman blamed for killing 32 students and himself at Virginia Tech, authorities said.
During a class discussion Tuesday of Monday’s massacre at Virginia Tech, Max Karson “made comments about understanding how someone could kill 32 people,” university police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley said.
Several witnesses told investigators Karson, who turns 22 on Thursday, said he was “angry about all kinds of things from the fluorescent light bulbs to the unpainted walls, and it made him angry enough to kill people,” according to a police report. Witnesses “said they were afraid of him and afraid to come to class with him,” Wiesley said.
Karson, of Denver, was arrested Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge of interfering with staff, faculty or students of an education institution.
Misdemeanor charge for interfering with staff, faculty, and students? Does someone want to try and explain what all of this is really about?

I do NOT sympathize with the shooter but the student who sympathized with the shooter did have the right to say what ever he wants. Even though its an odd response it did not warrant an arrest. You can bet that he will be suing somebody on this fumble.

Institutions of higher learning are supposed to be safe havens of radical thought. The student was exercising his right of free speech.

To say you understand killing 32 people over light bulbs and walls means you might not need to be arrested… but you need help.
i sympathize with him. he was suffering in his head, and its only natural to sympathize with those who are suffering against their own will, no?

At any other time his comments may have not gotten him into the kind of trouble it did seeing as he sympathized with a person who killed 32 innocent people only days ago.
I don’t think I can blame the school (of which I attend mind you) for taking the kind of precautions that they did. With any sort of random act of violence like this, fear of a copy cat sort of incident taking place is extremely high.
The student has a right to free speech but he also needs to be knowledgeable to the fact that what he may say can easily be misinterpreted at such a time like this and draw plenty of negative attention to himself.
You wouldn’t sit on a plane and talk aloud about it crashing would you? It’s the same concept.

shit liek this happens all the time in other countrys… the highschool i went to had a bomb threat called into day… just so the kids could have off tomorrow when they didnt find a bomb today so they can “celebrate” 4/20 and smoke weed… in other countrys bomb threats arnt called in… people get on a bus and wonder if it is the time they will die from a bus blowing up of if they will live to see another day….

Only in America do people have the luxury of going out drinking all night and then get on their computer and ramble about how shitty their fellow citizens for being so self centered. The real reason we have our noses up in the air is because 300 years ago we were nothing. Look where we elbowed ourseles in the world today. We are targets because people are envious, people of radical religions that is. In a related news stub, a disturbing thing happened near my home town yesterday. In Federal Way, WA, a student was arrested after he stole 3 loaded State Patrolman’s guns and brought them to school. He was later caught with the guns, and unfortunately, no violence ensued. However, the student stated that his intention was to sell the guns to other students. Ever since Monday, even though we’re on a completely opposite part of the country, everyone has been going nuts. -_- However, to the matter at hand, I am also quite disturbed by the news above. He said that he could understand why he would kill 32 people, but it doesn’t mean that he’s sympathizing. Sure, I understand too- Something snapped in the boy’s head. Dunno why it snapped because I don’t know the guy or his history, but just because I say that doesn’t mean I sympathize with the man anymore than anyone else does. We have class discussions bordering on topics like this all the time; unless the student was thrashing around or making threats, I don’t see the action listed here as warranted. They said they were afraid to come to class with him, but they never stated whether he did anything violent during the class discussion.

I’ve personally have done many things for my community through volunteer work at the hospital and historical theatre, but most of the time I like to relax with friends. But whatever I do, it’s my right, I’m free to do whatever the hell I want to do. A lack of time would be a major factor in that since I go to school full-time. I plan on helping people out using my medical degree, but I guess that’s not as important as marching for whatever cause is trendy at the moment, like blaming celebrity whores for America’s troubles.
I find it almost comical that you generalize every immigrant as being welfare recipients. I said almost comical, it’s far scarier than comical because views like that breed hatred. Take what I say with a grain of salt, because I frankly don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, right?
I’m curious, if America and it’s people is as horrible as you describe with all of the benefits and rights it has bestowed upon you, which country would you like to be a citizen of, and why? How would your life improve by this move, and what contributions can you make to that society?
As a side note, you are obviously ignorant on the whole Nicole Ritchie topic. You assumed nothing ever came of it and she was simply given a slap on the wrist. Actually, the case is still ongoing, her attorneys obtained an extension and the next court appearance is scheduled for April 30th. Maybe YOU don’t know what you’re talking about. i’ve been here for last 10 years, and as soon as i turned 16 i found a job. throughout college i paid for my own degree and i am still paying for college. I have not taken a SINGLE welfare benefit from the govt. I pay more than 800 dollars in taxes EVERY MONTH. SO DONT U EVER SAY ALL IMMIGRANTS ARE HERE FOR FREE MONEY.
