As a longtime OS X user from the first version and also an XP user, I'm dismayed at the poor performance and cheap rip off of Apple operating system characteristics. I turned off the fancy menu graphic etc that Hog memory, the same as in Osx and Vista works better. Its a dissapointment, but after using it intimately since its release, It is still deffinitely better than XP. I hated dealing with XP, so anything more Mac-like is a step in the right direction.

ha ha and so Microsoft copies yet another ""feature"" from it's competitors. Apple has been doing this for years, and not just with their OS.

Granted with each new release of Apple's OS, it does get better and better. So I don't know many people who still want to run the older apple versions. I only wish Microsoft would copy the idea of improving ability, and stop releasing crap just to churn the market.

The cancel/allow (UAC) can be turned off in the profile settings - its for people who shouldn't be using any computer in the first place. Its what happens when microsoft has to protect people from themselves- (lets hope the government never has to go that far)

Lags aren't an issue for a core duo based laptop (i.e. 1.6ghz)

All of my must have programs run correctly with little or no tweaking. Even a variety of games old and new seem to run with few if any glitches.

There is a large amount of bloatware with vista home premium.
And if you're upgrading expect to do some system adjustments

All in all a better os than xp is. -never used OS X, any version of linux or Unix,
i'm well aquainted with windows 3.1/3.11, 95 A, 98/98se, nt 4, 2000, xp home/xp pro, vista bis, vista home premium

Its true since Vista is this "new and better" software the older game version dont run well. Vista's lags are a pain....and the "cancel or allow" bit is enough for one to throw their computer out the window. This is just like the old microsft so thumbs up to them. I will call my lawer then *smiles*. I personally wont push any of my friends to Vista I actually warn them to buy XP better. I had Vista home edition but converted back to XP sure I COULD put Vista back but.....meh.

i dont see any advantage vista has over xp.

if you ever look at the memory vista takes w/o running any programs vs xp, its nuts.

many games dont run as well on vista as they do on xp

and MATT is right, many software vendors for professional business wont support vista for a while.

as someone already mentioned vista is the new me

I really believe this is nuts Microsoft is just lowering much of their status. Vista has no real big difference compared to XP. Personally I would stick to XP instead of upgrading to Vista.

"sounds like linux and OS X are about to get more attention! :D"

No, it sounds like older hardware is about to get more attention to me. If they force hardware vendors into only spec'ing new hardware to have drivers available for vista, things will be messy for a while to come.

Hell, I do this stuff for a living, and I can honestly tell you that I'm certainly not pushing any of my clients into a Vista environment yet. Most business management software packages have only fully supported XP for a few years now. I can see it taking some of those software providers having a few years until they're fully compatible with Vista as well. I'm sure that people other than myself are also feeling a little bit like we're getting this shit stuffed down our throats.

I've also heard that Microsoft is telling all resellers that they will no longer be able to get or sell any OEM versions of XP after the end of the year. Now this is starting to look like the old Micro$oft.........

Thank god for all of the anti-wpa measures available :)

If only Vista was less buggier then I would definitely use it. But for now I will stick with XP.
