Google Does Less Evil

Today, Google (my arch nemesis :P) has updated their privacy policy for the better. Google has always collected information about your search which includes the actual search term, the users IP addresses and cookie details and kept the data as long as Google saw fit.

But after 18-24 months Google will keep anonymous server logs, unless their are legally compelled to do otherwise which is a HUGE positive step for all users.

    Why is this better? I always knew that Google did that, and to me at least it never mattered. They can keep track of whatever they like as far as I’m concerned.

    I really hope we don’t lose the Google Search History Beta as a result of this decision. I really like that thing, sometimes I’ll forget something I searched for, and if I need it Google keeps a copy for me. They’ve saved my ass at least twice before.

    Personally I don’t go anywhere without http://www.customizegoogle.com/ plugin for FireFox, which lets you Anonymize your Google userid and remove ads. Either way, worth the second or so it takes to download.
