Viacom today filed a lawsuit seeking more then $1 billion in damages (cue Dr. Evil) due to “massive intentional copyright infringement of Viacom’s entertainment properties.” Viacom is also asking for an injunction prohibiting Google and YouTube from further copyright infringement.
Viacom calculated the damages by the availability of over 160,000 unauthorized clips of Viacom’s programming (Which include MTV Networks, including MTV: Music Television, VH1, CMT: Country Music Television, Logo, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, COMEDY CENTRAL, Spike TV, TV Land, and more than 130 networks around the world, as well as digital assets such as MTV.com, comedycentral.com, VSPOT, TurboNick, Neopets, Xfire and iFilm; BET Networks; Paramount Pictures; DreamWorks; and Famous Music) that have been available on YouTube that have been viewed more than 1.5 billion times.
someone has goo stuck up their tube
yer its right. It was on BBC national news today. Big story really but in the end not much will change of youtube, its impossible to sensor that amont of content short of shutting the site down.
That is what there working to do really shutdown every thing on the net. And force every one to pay out the rear just to go to a site. Then every web site will become pay-per-view. And at that point there will be no more net. Just another form of what TV has become big business keeping use all in the dark and feeding use 20 mins worth of adds and 10 mins worth of show.
Youtube is here and its not going away. Just like when napster jumped on the scene. Granted napster is now a legal program but there are so many copy cat programs out there still that allow you to steal music.
Even if youtube does shut down, people are hooked on the concept and will find a way to emulate it.
