Verizon Puts The Smackdown on Vonage

The battle of the V’s are on!!! Verizon has been granted $58 million in a preliminary, and appealed verdict against Vonage for violating three of Verizons patents regarding connecting VoIP calls to the regular circuit-switched telephone network.
Even thought the verdict is being appealed, nobody is sure if Verizon will get an injunction against Vonage halting sales of their VOIP product. Verizon also claimed during the trial that it has lost 600,000 customers to Vonage as a result of the ‘violated’ patents.
Vonage is actively working on a workaround for the technology, but all we can expect for the near feature is a long drawn out expensive legal battle that will be extremely similar to the RIM v NTP case.
