People Powered Gym
How many times have you wondered while you were gym – Wonder how much power I’m generating on this exercise bike? Okay, maybe I’m the only psycho that does that but none the less somebody at the “California Fitness Gym” in Hong Kong thought the same thing.
It using the power generated by its members to power TVs, and lights. The Gym estimates if the machines are used 10 hours a day for a year, they would have saved $183 worth of electricity. Now that is a far call from the installation cost $15,000, but hey they are saving the environment on pedal at a time.

Yaaay! I knew I wasn’t the only psycho that was wondering that!
Thanks Dan!
This was an artifact from the future in an issue of Wired a while back (and by a while back, I mean, like, a year or two. Or more). Great idea, though. When the warranty expired on my elliptical machine, I wanted to see if I could hook it up to a generator (or something) and use it to generate power. Then the frame broke and ruined the whole thing.
