Farewell to Safari plugins, haxies, or whatever you want to call them

This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.Sad news for Safari browser users. According to an article by Ars Technica, Apple is disabling the use of InputManager plugins.
One more tip we got regarding Leopard, is that InputManager plugins are no longer allowed. That’s right… no more little hacks from anybody besides Apple. No more Apple menu hacks. No more Safari plugins.
Follow the post and comments on hicksdesign. Personally, I find this news unfortunate and discomforting. I will no longer enjoy the blazing speed of Safari + the multitude of "enhancements" provided by various developers. Farewell Saft, Inquisitor, and scores of other useful bits of add-ons for the Safari browser.
I’m going to save some time and start moving all my browsing habits back to Firefox. It will save me the hassle of moving bookmarks and settings later down the road when Leopard comes through. What’s this latest rumor that Leopard may not show until October! The reason being something about providing support for Vista?! Boo to that. Release and patch support later!
Oh no! No more Inquisitor.. But I love that app :( .
F**ck
Leopard in October would never happen, why would Apple hold off on releasing it for Windows users?? Sounds kinda backwards to me..
I agree.. release now, patch later..
Hey, Apple, what happened to “Go Beyond Vista”?
I will definitely be switching to Firefox completely if this turns out to be true. Hopefully, Apple will integrate some sort of alternative for Safari.
If I can’t have TabStop and PithHelmet, I may as well start using Firefox.
ah, thats why inquisitor was made free a few months ago.. i didn’t think wantabee did anything for free.
This is a moronic move by Apple…..
Inquisitor, Safaristand and SafariPlus are integral to many Mac user workflows.
The thought of getting accustomed to the ugly beast that is Firefox has me less than excited. On a brighter note, maybe this will spur more (and better) plug-ins for Camino!
If this is true, than Apple is really no brainy.
Hey Derek, if you want to move your bookmark to any browser on your mac, you can use BookIt. It’s a bookmark synchronizer for browser polygamy :D
Kuswanto… Great tip. I’ll make sure to post that tomorrow.
Day after day, I see Steve got something to hide from his fear…
booooooo
I give it no more than a month before some enterprising engineer (grin) discovers a way to get their stuff loaded: 1) The Objective-C/Cocoa runtime is obscenely flexible. 2) Installers run with root privileges. ’nuff said.
man that will totally blow – i live off safari. but then again I really like flock and would happily switch to using that as my full time browser, but first I’ll need to get a faster computer!
about the october rumor – do you have any links of that Derek? I’ve been holding off buying a MB at least till May because I want to see if leopard will out by then, if it’s coming out in the fall I am going to purchase.
see, as much as i like apple design and intuitiveness, it’s moves like this that keep me from switching, I mean, I like hacking around and loading up user made material. The whole, “Take it as it is because it’s Apple” theme gets on my nerves. just my two cents
According to AppleInsider the Leopard delay rumors are false, so I wouldn’t believe this either. The Ars article also updated itself with news that debunks their previous claim of InputManagers being removed. So take a look again, and calm down.
