That Will Teach You to Pirate
A Program called “Display Eater” will eat your “Home” directory if you enter an illegal serial number
A make of Mac software has uncovered a “scary” anti-piracy measure in a bit of code called Display Eater.
Display Eater records motion video on your screen which you can then convert to a quicktime movie. However writing in his bog here, Karsten Kusche, who works for another Apple software maker Briksoftware, says that if you try to use a pirated serial number with Display Eater, the software will delete your home file, which in Mac land is the same as killing your computer.
Although I don’t condone stealing software, deleting someone’s home directory because they pirated seems a bit extreme and possibly illegal.

apparently it’s just a scare tactic…

Damn, that should be illegal, I’ve heard that the app’s source had been opened because of the multiple complains.
Digg it!
I remember Wolfenstein (and probably other early id games) used to make this threat when you’d load and quit.
Even if it were just a scare tactic, it’s a good way to be sure no one ever buys your software again.
It’s way extreme, and most definitely illegal.
extremely extreme… jesus
That’s why its called Briksoftware.. because it bricks your computer.
hmm, and what about if you misread your serial number and typed in an “illegal” serial number by accident???….
It could happen
Software with those kind of threats does not get bought by people with brains. End.
Huh? Display Eater is freeware… http://reversecode.com/
I don’t get it.
