Sprint will drop your ass if you roam too much
Sprint the company of “bold innovation have come together in a new company with a clear mission: To be No. 1 in providing a simple, instant, enriching and productive customer experience [#] has taken another swipe at their customers by limiting the “unlimited” roaming. Sprint has previously been known for not limiting their services (Unlike Verizon), but that is slowly coming to an end.
The Consumerist is reporting that Sprint will cancel service for customers that roam more then 50% of the time for two months starting February 26, 2007. You will receive a nasty gram from Sprint, and representatives are strictly told not to save you as a customer as the script shows:
Mr/Ms Customer, I do apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. This is a final decision by Sprint and I have been given no ability to reverse the actions outlined in the letter you received. I can tell you that Sprint offers a program to buy back eligible phones and you can learn more about that at www.sprintbuyback.com. Again, I apologize that I cannot assist you any further at this time.
For those who are looking for an out from your Sprint contract – you got it! No word on if you will be able to keep your number. I would gladly leave Sprint for AT&T / Cingular if they offered a DAMN unlimited text plan – if anyone can get us on that you have a new customer!
Full disclosure, Sprint is the carrier of UNEASYsilence / Experiment23

this means i can get a cheap phone and not worry about the 2 year contract…
I’m currently with Sprint, well sort of…..Nextel. Been with Nextel for 8 years.
I was thinking about switching over to Sprint phone service, due to some sweet little perks they give existing Nextel customers from time to time. My main reason for switching was going to be the UTStarcom PDA phone which Nextel can’t provide.
I guess I won’t have to worry too much about this until Sprint will give me a plan with unlimited incoming calls, that I currently get from Nextel. It’s cool to get your bill each month and see the total talk time up in the 2000-3000 minute range with only a 600-outgoing minute plan, and never go over on the usage.
Sprint aired a TV commercial a few months back about a CEO who was “sticking it to the man” with his phone plan. I guess they decided to repay the favor.
I hope you don’t get stuck in the train tunnel (for 2 months) :-P
AT&T does now offer the unlimited texting. There’s mobile to mobile unlimited with 200 text messages to non AT&T customers or the full unlimited texting. They both cost 9.99 and 19.99 respectively. AT&T also offers it with a media bundle. I wouldn’t doubt they come out with a new plan because of the release of the iPhone which is exclusive to AT&T.
