Watch out Parallels: VMWare Fusion has 3D acceleration!

The war is on! VMWare has confirmed that they have nailed 3D acceleration in their virtualization product, leaving the wildly popular Parallels in the dust.

On the official company blog they wrote:

Somebody managed to get a hand on an internal beta build of VMware Fusion whose UI offers a way to accelerate 3D graphics in virtual machines, and even made a video of some serious 3D gaming action in Fusion.

This video kind of caught us by surprise.[...]

The author of this video (a woman if the female voice-over is any indication?) is obviously a dedicated VMware and Mac zealot. While I wish we had done this video ourselves, given how well the video has been received so far, I can only say “Thank You.”

After looking at the video, all I have to say is “Wow!”

Or better yet, just run windows. Period.

That looks pretty immense. IF it had Parallels coherence mode would be fantastic!

You missing the point Annon, that means OSX user will be have the chance to play windows game directly in virtual windows.

Fantastic news. Frankly being able to play my PC games on my lovely new iMac is great. No more can people say “yeah, the mac looks nice, but you can’t run games on it”. Now I can play my old game using SCUMMVM, and now my new ones with VMWare or Parallels! Why go back to a PC now?
