I love when I find nifty little hints that help my in my daily life! Friend of the site, Lifehacker, has posted a screenshot tour of how to crack Windows passwords. All you download and burn the ISO of the live CD, and you are on your way to recovering users forgotten passwords.

The only catch is that the software can crack passwords so long as they are alphanumeric and less than 15 characters, but then again how many people do you know with 16 character passwords? Good thing my password is “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”….uhhhhh….Excuse me I have some password changing to do.

You would probably also be interested in “backtrack,” http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack.html. It does a lot more than just password recovery.

there are faster and easier ways than with this spec software, all you actually to do is replace the hashed password in windows for whatever specific account with a hash of a blank password or someother password you know and voila instant knowledge of the users password. The only problem with this method is the user knows he/she’s been hacked.

now, a REALLY “good” password to change to would be pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis ;) but hey, at least it can’t be hacked with this cd!

    p.s.
I’m serious, i didn’t copy-paste! maybe its cuz i have too much time on my hands…
