Unhappy with the latest Flickr news?

You’re riding in a giant boat with quite a number of other disappointed users. Apparently, Flickr hopes to keep its customers, ergh should I say soon to be ex-customers, happy by providing a full refund [via].
Personally, I didn’t see the big deal with accepting the news announced during the acquisition that Yahoo credentials would take over. Flickr users were well aware of the change weren’t they? I mean, the account page for Flickr even prompted users with a choice of willingly adopting Yahoo integration.
Flickr sucks, i cant stand links to flickr galleries, slow and non efficient way to look at images, i hope they asplode
Derek I agree with you. I don’t see what the big deal is either. The second I got the email I went ahead and changed over to my yahoo id. If people are bitchin and complaining about it because they don’t like Yahoo then why are they still using Flickr after they were bought over. They had plenty of hints and warnings that this day would come they had plenty of time to switch over to something else like http://zooomer.com or just back up their stuff offline.
My only beef with the Yahoo ID integration is the complete inability to change the Flickr-YahooIDName pairing once it’s been made. When I first joined Flickr, I paired my account to an older Yahoo ID that came with my DSL subscription. A week later I made the realization that if I ever canceled my DSL, I’d lose the Yahoo account and thus my Flickr account. So, I created a new free Yahoo account, but sadly, Flickr tech support can’t change the pairing over. Stupid stupid stupid.
It’s bullshit. The ONLY thing that changes is the way you log in. It doesn’t affect your visible user name, URL, or Pro status. I switched to my Yahoo ID long ago and nothing changed in the way I use Flickr. You don’t even have to use a Yahoo email ID.
Who seems to be behind the initial uproar? Hint: the CEO of one of Flickr’s competitors
I have no idea why ppl are all pissed. This has been COMMON KNOWLEDGE for just about a year. *slaps haters with trout*
I still have my old Flickr registration, and they’re wtfing at me to try to get it back. I just got this message a few days ago:
“On March 15th we’ll be discontinuing the old email-based Flickr sign in system. From that point on, everyone will have to use a Yahoo! ID to sign in to Flickr.
We’re making this change now to simplify the sign in process in advance of several large projects launching this year, but some Flickr features and tools already require Yahoo! IDs for sign in — like the mobile site at m.flickr.com or the new Yahoo! Go program for mobiles, available at Yahoo! Go. “
(The rest of the message is available here.)
Let me get one thing straight: I don’t like Yahoo. I’ve never really liked them, or any of their features. They seem to be trying to win me over by buying both Konfabulator and Flickr, two things that were awesome previously. I’m not going to say that Yahoo! ruined these services, but they’re trying to integrate it with other things that I won’t use. This is pretty much useless.
Then again, Google does the same, and I’m a pretty active user of their other products. I’m sure if a similar situation came up with them, I wouldn’t be as irritated.
Self-realization of hypocrisy sucks.
