Trick out your Treo 750

I have been playing with the Treo 750 for awhile now and it has quickly become a small love in my life, especially with its Exchange “Push” email support, bright screen, ample memory, soft touch paint (gosh it feels like silk), THREADED SMS support (The one barrier for me dropping my 700p), and UMTS network support that allows me to use both voice and data.

But some people are just not happy with the stock Cingular configuration (or limitations). Want to watch Cingular video? How about bypass the Cingular proxy of death? Maybe turn on HSDPA on the Treo 750? Gadget Tech can help.

  • IE Cingular Proxy Registry Hack for the Treo 750: This hack just makes changes to the Treo’s registry, to bypass the Cingular proxy. The pros are that you will now have the ability to access the MEdia Net web site at http://device.home/ and use it’s services which include Cingular Video. The Cons are sometimes slow internet browsing (becasue you are flowing through a proxy), and degraded internet image quality (thanks to the proxy down sampling the images).
  • How to get Cingular Video on the Treo 750: Cingular includes a free video service that comes with all their internet enabled devices, but by default this service is not enables for smart phones, since the media is streamed in REAL PLAYER format. Simply download the Real Player for Windows Mobile to the device. Change a few settings, and then you get to enjoy Cingulars prepackaged 3 minute clips
  • HSDPA Hack for the Treo 750: use this one at your own risk. Palm will be releasing an HSDPA upgrade for the device next quarter, but for those who can’t wait you will need to download a hacked CAB file that will trick the OS to utilize the higher speed network. Gadget Tech is QUICK to point out that even though there seems to be no major glitches or battery drain using this hack there could be something nasty happening behind the scenes. Again use at your own !
