Let it Be: The Beatles Coming to iTunes?

Something funny happened at Macworld, Steve Jobs not only mentioned the Beatles during his keynote address he also played two of their songs at the keynote address. Previously that would have been a MAJOR no no considering the relationship in between Apple Inc, and Apple Corps.

But, since the Beatles lost in a major copyright case relationships between the two Apples have been getting better, and it is rumored that the Beatles catalog may now actually appear on iTunes.

[...] details have emerged suggesting that in keeping with Jobs’ oft-professed love of the Fab Four, the Beatles catalog could become available in the iTunes store next month, on Valentine’s Day. Rumor has it that iTunes will have a three-month digital exclusive on the albums, which have never before been available on a “legit” online music service.

So, when will Apple announce this? During the Super Bowl, if the rumors are correct. Napster announced its subscription service during the Super Bowl too; just because something launches while everyone’s watching doesn’t mean it’ll be a hit. That said, if Jobs is looking for a way to proclaim his love for the band and its impending iTunes availability from the highest available mountaintop, the Super Bowl is it.

as a fan of the beatles, and also a fan (not fanboy) of apple, im glad that this two work together… but since is a rumor, i will take it as a rumor… besides i own all the UK Albums (Sgt pepper & abbey road in LP FYI) , so i really dont need it.

Hmm…wonder if Beatles could make it to number 1, now that tracks don’t have to have a CD single out to get on the charts in the UK anymore.

    To Maijc:

Apparently the big to-do about this release is that the entire catalog has been re-mastered once again, apparently with digital distribution in mind. While maybe this wouldn’t be enough for people like you or I to consider re-purchasing our Beatles collection, some people will spring for it. And Apple Corps. will be there to gladly accept their money. :P
