Will Apple release a version of its Safari browser for Windows? The Mozilla Foundation seems to believe such a move is a distinct possibility. Buried in the wiki information the Mozilla Foundation posted this week about its future plans for Firefox is a statement under the “Observations & Assumptions” section that reads:
“Apple may have Safari on Windows with likely ties to iTunes & .Mac”
I for one will surely welcome [with open arms] an official port of Safari for the Windows platform. Is anyone else looking forward to such a day? Obviously the key ideas here are “rumor” & “speculation”.
I’m not 100% sure on the benefits of such a move – porting Safari to Windows. Much of the functionality that I enjoy using Safari as my default browser is the fact that the application is tied into the actual OS X operating system. I doubt anything close would be offered on the Windows side – the only advantage being the functionality of
Well, considering that WebKit is already on Windows, it could happen. I just don’t think it’s going to. There’s no real incentive for Apple to make Safari for Windows. There’s plenty of browsers for Windows already, and there’s not much to gain from Safari being among them. Let Safari continue to be the awesome browser for the Mac that it is.
Firefox 4ever! :D
I really hate safari as a browser. We dont need more people using it! ;-)
It has issues displaying stuff like WYSIWYG editors and other stuff, so it is really hard to make stuff for safari.
What i do like though, is the input boxes, and scoll-gui-stuff.. it is really nice.
I imagine if Safari was ported to Windows, the issues including quicktags for WYSIWYG editors would surely be resolved.
I really can not see this happening at all. Apple wouldn’t stand to gain much, if any, from porting the browser to Windows. There is also the point that some of things so great about Safari are tied to OS X, for example Address Book for homepages, the system wide dictionary for spellchecking and I’m sure there are others that I can’t think of right now.
I always thought this could happen… If Apple is interested on win the browser battle, then i think they could win by far… Still, Safari relays it’s beautifulness on Mac OS X… Windows couldn’t give it the “sleekness” it needs…
