There are so many little utilities on the internet they CHARGE to take screen grabs from Windows Media Player (WMP).

So, let us save you some money! Here is the free and simple way to take as many screen grabs as your heart desires!

  • Open Window Media Player
  • Then go to Tools | Options
  • In Options, select the Performance Tab
  • On the bottom click on the Advanced Button
    step1wmp.jpg
  • Uncheck “Use Overlays’

step2wmp.jpg

  • Click Ok

Now you can use the standard Print Screen method (CTRL + Print Screen), and paste the resulting image into your photo editing application.

    Wow, very nice tip.

Didn’t work for me. At least not w/ WMP 11.

It picked up my full screen, and the video image was stationary where WMP had it. If I moved the captured image around, it was like a layer on top of the image… Tried in both PSP and PhotoShop…

nice to know you can do this, but i rather just open the video in VLC media player and then use its “snapshot” feature, the screengrab is conveniently in a png file in your documents

In the last version of WMP you just hit ctrl + i for a capture
