About a year ago Olympus dropped one of the oddest MP3 players on us (At least it had the oddest name we have ever seen). But unfortunately the device only had looks going for it, its functionality was quite limited and it’s camera was terrible, so the device was eventually discontinued by Olympus and relegated to geeks gadget draws.

So with all devices, there is always a desire to run Linux on it. With some hackery by “Shirour” has not only installed the Linux kernel 2.6.15 on that device, but also created a touchscreen driver and a serial interface. [via]

All you need to do is download a few files (All mirrored: 1, 2, 3, 4) and follow the instructions listed here.

Dan, don’t you have one of these units? Time to dig it out from the pile of not-so-cool hardware closet.

I have Linux installed on mine. Note that poewr management doesn’t work (so, no standby, no sleep), and sound doesn’t work… yet. Once those two things are done, might make an acceptable PDA.
