Another UNEASY re-alignment

A little disoriented? Dan and I thought that since 2007 was just around the corner, UNEASYsilence.com deserved a fresh new look. A re-alignment to match our new endeavors for the 2007 year. Drop your thoughts or comments and let us know what you think. We’ll be working on a few things behind the curtain in order to make are exhaustive archives a little easier to navigate. In closing, we’d like to see how observant our readers really are. Try and list all the obvious or not so obvious details that we’ve changed since our last makeover.
Derek –
I will never fully understand all the hard work that goes into your design, but I’m excited to have this design bring in 2007. Lets see if the readers can find all the new features!
I like the new looks of the comments.
Btw, the RSS link on the main page doesn’t work properly (I mean that one below “Background”).
It says “http://uneasysilence.com/#” as target.
I like it, but fix the left side navigation sidebar (there is too much whitespace at the top in my opinion). other then that it’s great!
Its very good. Agree on the white space at the top. Also has the font been reduced in size? just seems a bit harder to read some of the text.
There seems to be a massive amount of space between title and the top of the page, also, you have to scroll down to read anything!!!
On the plus side, I like the clean look, its great!
I like it, props to derek.
need more color on the sides and on the top, but i aint no web designer…
i like it
you’re hairless person creeps me out…
I like the new layout but it just seems WAY TOO light. I need to move my head around just to see what the heck it says. You need to make some of the text a bit more DARKER!!!!!!
I CANT SEE IT THAT GOOD. I have good vision but the it need a bit more darkness to it. PLEASE MAKE THAT CHANGE!
Wow this is different, but I like it =D
I agree about the lightness.. its too light… and i’m not sure i like that i have to click on links to read posts … just annoying..
and i’ve read all these articles and now they say unread…. AAHHHH!!!!
It looks as though no more 5thirtyone.com signature in the footer, instead, it has been replaced by “IS” — is.derekpunsalan.com
Looks good though guys, the subtle use of the blue is a nice detail.
Oh you also added “an experiment23 project” as the tagline for the logo.. does this mean that you will be updating that site finally?
keep it up, can’t wait to see what 07 has in store.
Very nice!
It could use a tad more color though.
Does only the top story show an image?
Also, I don’t understand what the ping function does yet.
Oh about the non-pictures on the main post page… maybe a thumbnail pic next to the post that would entice me to click the link?
i’m a visual guy and i like pics :)… that sounds creepy… but its true, not the creepy part, the part about liking pics.. :)
Very nice, but it’s a bit minimalistic for my tastes – a bit more color would be nice.
I like it!… something that i don’t understand though is why the comment’s date is always Dec 31st 2006 – 6:43am… =/
I think the left column is too big, but that might just be because I’m at 1024×768 :(
I hate not being able to just read the posts without clicking them. I liked being able to see the images just from clicking the link in my toolbar :( C’monnnn, put it back :D
Clicking on a item to read it is really annoying. I use the site to quickly view the latest topics, and having to scroll though, reading the tittles and a bit of text to each topic, working out whether i have seen it or not, and then having to click it if i havent really does slow me down, lack of pictures being a big let down. To be honest, if it weren’t changed to a format more similar to the existing one, then i’m not sure I would bother coming to the site anymore, as its so much hassle going to each item. Have you considered that when there are a lot of posts on a certain day, or weekend, then a user could have to click on an item, and the back button maybe 15 times each, rather than being able to scroll through them all.
Everyone’s comments are useless because they’ve mentally adapted the old site to their liking (see general adaptation symptom).
Love it too, very nice! But I have to agree with Adam, I don’t like to click to read the entire post, it’s much enjoyable experience to read posts through and through.
And have a Happy New Year guys!!
Mikey, the full content is still available in the feeds.
nice, but mine is better.. :P
I’ve used a template though.. :D
very nice. i wasn’t a fan of the last one at all.
great job and happy 2007!
I miss the pictures in the headlines…
I don’t care, what I really want is for the RSS feed favicon to be fixed… this really bothers me in NewsFire…

^^ eww ditch FeedBurner
I miss the pictures being visible on every article at the front page… Great design, but bringing the pictures back to stories other than the most recent would make it much better.
I love it! Personaly, I the images to pick out what looks good enough to read. If it’s possible, could you do a sort of 531Light/Dark thing where one shows the content in the new, improved way, and then traditional way? Other than that, I love it!
so will you be releasing your previous wordpress theme for public use, maybe on 5htirtyone? i loved that theme and would be thrilled to be able to use it
I miss the pictures and full text of the story as well. I use many machines and clean out my history often and so the read/unread feature doesn’t help to offset the lack of recognizable pictures very much. I third the motion for bumping up the left hand bar. Otherwise I like the new minimalistic setup.
Well, we are toying with the design all day today and tomorrow. Keep the constructive opinions coming.
milky :D
Didn’t like it at first, but it’s grown on me. Nice design.
I would have to agree with the idea of having full content available, like with the old layout. I support having full content even if it gets rid of the read/ unread idea, which was kind of nifty.
I Like. Wasn’t sure at first if I was on the right page, but turns out I was. I also would like to see pics up on the front page, its esp. good for the posts that have nothing to do with me.
i would rather be able to read the posts on the front page instead of having to go to each posts. but the look is alright. the posting area is quite thin though.
YES! The images are back! Now, it is truly perfect!
ahhhhh
i need bigger pictures
there are too many words with not enought pictures
Images are gone until I figure out an acceptable method to present them. Everything is a continual work in progress.
Whoa! well it’s different, uhm, yeah I like it, if you were used to the last style it’s kinda hard to find stuff, pretty much the same but it seems very clean.
Nice job!
Form: the design looks good… but seems to have a corporate look with all the sharp edges.
Function: I miss the full text, and embeded images. This layout requires me to do more work when enjoying your site. I miss the “recent posts section” and the “who commented on what” in the nav area.
well, I love seeing the good old original mug at the top of the page, but I don’t like that there aren’t any pictures until you click into the link. Other than that, I love the new layout. Great work!
yeah i love the layout, it just need more color on the sides and on the top, like said
I like it!
I don’t like it. It’s now become a hassle and more time consuming to read. I don’t mind scrolling forever, but clicing back and forth is a hassle. Please switch back!
Troy, check the links to navigate between stories within the single post view.
I don’t like it.
Sitting here, I can’t be bothered to turn the light on, and it’s just like staring into a giant light bulb. The Lack of colour makes it even harder to look through, becuase I have no idea where I was last if I happen to get distracted from reading.
All these solutions that are being given still involve more clicking. I’d just like to be able to open up the page and have a look at the latest, see what I have and haven’t read, have a laugh etc.
And, as for Jeremy who said “Everyone’s comments are useless because they’ve mentally adapted the old site to their liking (see general adaptation symptom).”…. Can’t people just not like it with out being told they liked the old one too much?
