Discussion: Over 25% of Legislation Passed in 109th Congress Was Renaming Buildings

This post was published 2 years 10 months 24 days ago and its content may not be valid anymore.CNN reports that of the 383 pieces of legislation that were signed into law during the two-year 109th Congress, more than one-quarter dealt with naming or renaming federal buildings and structures — primarily post offices after various Americans.
What do you think of this? (Again, we plead the 5th)
glad to see my tax dollars hard at work, buying $600.00 toilet seats and renaming buildings …… hitting the issues that matter first!
Republicans have abandoned their conservative base and can no longer claim to be the party in favor of small government. While many talking heads focus on Iraq as the deciding factor in the recent elections, they completely overlook (intentionally or conveniently) this point. Throughout the 80s and 90s, all we heard from the Republicans was “smaller federal government, more power to the States”. However, once they were put in power (and in sufficient numbers to implement these policies), they expanded the federal government in ways that would make any liberal envious. This left the core group of conservatives looking for a new home. Unfortunately, (likely because getting on a State ballot is such a mucked up process) many conservatives were faced with the choice of voting for a Democrat or not casting a vote for that particular race.
We really need a “none of the above” option. The Supreme Court really dropped the ball on that decision.
Well, the renaming of a building by a legislative body generally takes about thirty seconds, so of course there will be a large percentage of them–they’re easy to do, quick, and they please the folks back home. Not a big deal.
wasn’t it also the congress that has met the LEAST in all of american history?
I have to agree with Chad. I’m glad that my tax dollars are going towards hard core issues that will ensure the future of American democracy. The last thing we want are unnamed federal post offices!
Odd. They didn’t do anything when they ran the Congress and when the Democrats take over there will be even less getting done. Oh boy.

I’d have to agree with Matthew Rodgers up there. The liberals are notorious about sitting and whining while not getting things done.

SOUNDS QUESTIONABLE BUT IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO KNOW OF THE MORE THAN 100 BUILDINGS WHAT WERE THE NAMES CHANGED – FROM WHAT TO WHAT AND WHERE ARE THE BUILDINGS
THEN THE CRUCIAL QUESTION BECOMES WHAT ELSE DID THIS CONGRESS PASS?
