Verizons .02 Cents
Gotta love fuzzy math! Verizon doesn’t know the difference between .002 cents and .002 dollars, according one a customer who recently roamed to Canada. He asked Verizon the rate for data and voice transfer. They told him, “Point zero zero two cents per kilobyte.”
He was surprised then to receive a bill for Point zero zero two dollars per kilobyte.
Instead of getting charged $.7141, Verizon is charging him $71.41.
This is his call as he tries to explain to Verizon the difference between $.002 and $.00002.

I could never be as patient as he was. That’s A) ridiculous and B) Scary because I use Verizon. Time to start checking my bill more closely.

The guy is completely right… and I don’t see how anyone could not realise it. I listened for the whole length of the recording, and it is just so humorous, and I salute the customer for not just give up and email them… the STRESS

Its so hard for me to comprehend someone who cant do arithmatic (is that spelled right?). I know that I will never be able to be a math teacher, because I just cant stand people who dont understand the basics. It’s no offense to those people, I’m just like that.

As much as I don’t like it, it’s far more likely that the $0.02 is the real price.

This might be a stupid question, but what proof do we have that the original teledroid told him it was .0002 cents? The linked recording is from the call *after* he was charged, right?

There is a difference… gosh… .002 cent is like so little… gee… if canada was just in a part of the U.S verizon would never have had this problem. Thanks forefathers

Are you kidding me? Is it really that hard to imagine after 2 different reps (managers no less) quoted me .002 cents/kb ON the recording, and of course the first one on the call (the one who handed off to the first manager) obviously made the same mistake or he wouldnt have handed me off?
You must be at least mildly retarded.

On behalf of the entire nation of Canada, I wish to offer you our heartfelt apology. We’re terribly sorry and dismayed to discover that you’ve had to deal with some of our stupid people; our natural kind-heartedness leads us to put them in managerial positions where we feel they are slightly less likely to injure themselves on moving machinery or doors.
If it’s any consolation, at least you weren’t requested to participate in one of our national elections. No apology in the world could have made up for that.

It’s sad… but I just so happen to be teaching a middle school remedial math class at this very moment, and the poor darlings (I use the term loosely since we’re in gang land) are struggling with place value and decimals.
Glad to know they’re apparently the demographic who are apparently going to go on to manage the customer service departments of major corporations. Sigh.
