Can the Zune reviews get any worse?
This post was published 3 years 3 months 26 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. The barrage of negative reviews concerning the Zune media player continue find their way on to the internet. Despite the fact that Dan and I have yet to toy with long-term test units, the current state of the internet concerning the device is hard to ignore. Take for example a recent piece from the Chicago Sun-Times (Technology) titled Avoid the loony Zune. Based on the article snippets sampled below, does the Zune have a standing chance from disappearing from the music player market within the next year?
Yes, Microsoft’s new Zune digital music player is just plain dreadful. I’ve spent a week setting this thing up and using it, and the overall experience is about as pleasant as having an airbag deploy in your face. [...]
The setup process stands among the very worst experiences I’ve ever had with digital music players. The installer app failed, and an hour into the ordeal, I found myself asking my office goldfish, “Has it really come to this? Am I really about to manually create and install a .dll file?”
But there it was, right on the Zune’s tech support page. Is this really what parents want to be doing at 4 a.m. on Christmas morning?
That snippet alone is proof enough that come this holiday season, parents should definitely consider the technicalities that their children may face while setting up their freshly opened music players. Dan and I will reserve our personal opinions after giving these players a thorough run.
“Am I really about to manually create and install a .dll file?” HOW TO PLZ!
I wouldn’t trash the Zune just yet……..
After all it was just released a week or two ago. Seems that some people forget about the many problems that came with the 1st gen iPods (terrible iTunes software, battery problems, etc.)
From the relatively small amount of time that I’ve personally handled a Zune, I think the interface is easy to navigate and works at a decent speed. Give them a year, and if it’s not discontinued, I’m sure M$ will have a lot of the kinks ironed out.
I know for a fact that UNEASY has yet to officially discount the Zune until we get our mitts on a test unit. However, based off of the thoughts from personal contacts, the Zune failed to capture the attention of potential users in the “packaging” department. There is no denying that the thing looks like a brick. Even more so when the brown version is handled.
TDavid has written a piece in defense of Zune. he certainly isn’t writing off Zune yet.
I won’t purchase a zune until I can download the software which will allow me to view what the “marketplace” offers. After TEN tries to install and five calls to zune, I have given up. Zune reps tell me that there are problems with their website which are preventing the install – “we’re working on it”. Anyone else having similar problems?
