Can the Wii actually play backed up games?
This post was published 3 years 3 months 25 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. The Nintendo Wii is getting praised by geeks everywhere (Ben is a long time friend of the site), and quickly becoming a target for all kinds of hackery.
The video above reportedly is of a Wii, playing a burnt backup disk. I’m the quickest to point out, that the hackers in the video could simply be using two consoles, but I’ll let you be the judge of it.
The hackery doesn’t stop there:
With a combination of “Action Replay” with the software program “SDload” and the official Nintendo SD card adapter it will let anyone enjoy emulators such as SNES9x on their Wiis.
Video is gone
hmmmm…. the fist video was removed from youtube. go figure!
i saw the first vid before it got deleted
it looks legit, but theres talk abuot haveing a second condole hidden and pretending.
i saw this video lastnight.. i dont htink it was a second wii off screen.. if you watch the video it looks liek it has a cut done so they put in the cd.. move there arm out of the way take that disk out put the real disk in and then using a mac(since macs are the cool things to have now a days) it would tkae liek 4 seconds to cut out the section of the video same it and up load it to youtube.com…
how ever even with tsaying that for some weird reason i beleive that it was actually done.. looking at all the toher stuff that has been done with the wii allready i woduelnt be suprized if this was real haha
Is there a link to instructions for the Action Replay hack?
I cant see the vid either. In regards to playing the emulated stuff though, you have to understand that the wii is a glorified gamecube. I’m not saying that to be condescending, I mean there is literally a gamecube inside the wii with the original controller ports and everything. Stick any gamecube game in there and it works fine.
So basically all the hacks that worked on the gamecube will work on the Wii… provided you are using it like a gamecube.
They are just using the same SDload hack that has been done for a few years now to run those old emulated games.
As far wii games being cracked so soon I doubt that. It will be cracked but I would be surprised if it had been done so soon.
no ‘backup disk’ was used, it was a clean AR cheating itself into loading a menu from a memory card.
i use samson load, and if the wii runs gamecube software than an action replay disk being cheated to force it to run code present on an sdcard should work as well for it as it does the GC.
heres the procedure, roughly
1. AR disk loads, and loads a code that forces it to find a boot strap on a memory
card instead of the disk drive.
2. The AR requests the proper disk, you simply put the AR disk back in and the
code you loaded the first time is active.
3. Instead of checking the dirve as a clean, uncheated AR disk would do, it
checks the memory card slot for bootable code.
4. The cheated AR loads the boot code which runs a menu allowing you access
to the .dol executables present on the card.
samson load uses normal memory cards while sdload requires the sdcard adapter.
