Safely change the look and feel of the web

For the longest time, the Greasemonkey extension was a personal fave for modifying the behavior and look of certain websites. Oftentimes, the changes to page went beyond subtle font and colors to more drastic advertising filtering and content removal. Recently, I’ve adopted what I feel to be an even more valuable extension known as Stylish.

Stylish goes beyond editing the look and feel of websites and allows users to easily manipulate and edit the appearance of the browser itself. It’s simple, stress-free, and easy enough for a beginner to understand and begin experimenting with.

Stylish is a Firefox, Thunderbird, and Flock extension that allows easy management of user styles. User styles empower your browsing experience by letting you fix ugly sites, customize the look of your browser or mail client, or just have fun. With an online repository at userstyles.org, you don’t even need to know how to write styles yourself; just a couple clicks and the chosen style is applied. Stylish is to CSS what Greasemonkey is to JavaScript, and unlike other methods of using user styles, most styles take effect immediately.

Don’t worry if you can’t code or lack the time to experiment with personalized changes. Check out userstyles.org after installing the Firefox extension. The online repository offers a vast collection of changes which can be loaded via Stylish and reflected immediately after saving.
