In new builds of Apples new OS 10.5 “Leopard”, it seems that some of the unannounced secret features have come to surface.

These features include:

  • A Firewall that now has the ability to limit certain applications and services with a pop-up that also notifies you of external machines that are attempting to access your Mac. (Sorry Little Snitch)
  • Using Spotlight you can perform calculations and search the dictionary
  • Apple has included a new utility with Disk Utility, File Recovery allows the recovery of deleted files. The utility allows files to be searched for and then recovered.

Ps.: guess they’re not so “secret” anymore lol

LittleSnitch actually does the reverse of Apple’s new firewall. Apple’s firewall detects incoming connections, while LittleSnitch detects outgoing connections. I think they’ll work nicely hand-in-hand.

I think this is a slightly ambiguous description of what Little Snitch does. But I wouldn’t throw away Little Snitch yet. I’d bet that the firewall gives preferential treatment to all Apple software and allows it to phone home any time an internet connection is active.

    Who polices the police?
