OS X Undercover – Bad news for thieves

Worried about your Apple notebook landing in the wrong hands when you’re looking the other way? Undercover attempts to lessen the blow of a stolen Mac by offering constant surveillance of your computer once it is reported stolen.

Undercover constantly monitors any and all network traffic to and from your Mac which includes both the internal and external IP address & router address. The application even captures regular screenshots sending the images back to the recovery center. Additionally, Undercover transmits images from the built-in iSight every 6-minutes.

All of that protection for $39 ($29 for students). Is it a worthwhile investment?

I’d like some Reviews…. I mean.. somebody has to have had it tested?

  2. Derek says:

You’re absolutely right, we need some real reviews. Who’s up to leave their notebook at a coffee shop?

  3. Ben says:

I agree a review would be good. This is the sort of thing Apple, Dell, HP etc should look into. I personally would prefer a small GPS transmitter that can be remotely activated. The conversation goes like this “don’t steal that one dude, it is a Mac! They have built in tracking devices!”

    Seriously.

    paranoia rulz

  5. holy, i cant believe its taken someone this long to think of this!

Can you believe i read and replied to this post entirely on my PlayStation Portable?

  6. Palli Svansson says:

Uhhm, good idea but what would prevent the thief from uninstalling this app?

  7. Derek says:

According to the FAQ, you’ll need an administrative password to uninstall Undercover.

  8. So they are selling a damn trojan application for $40? You can download Sub7 for PC for free and customize it exactly to your liking.

Another way to steal money from the inapt Mac users.

Don’t buy this crap – even a high-school grade hacker can do better than this.
