NTP STFU
This post was published 3 years 4 months 8 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. How is that for an acronym? NTP not satisfied with their recent windfall settlement with RIM has decided to get rich, the lazy way, by suing every company in existence.
NTP today filed suit against Palm for patent infringement. The suit alleges that Palm manufacture and sale of the Treo violates NTP’s patents for wireless email. Earlier this year NTP won a $612 million settlement from Blackberry manufacturer RIM for similar claims. While RIM produces and markets software that is in conflict with NTP’s patents, Palm only includes third party wireless email software on the Treo. This could make NTP’s claims against the company more difficult. NTP claims the company has rebuffed it’s attempts to negotiate a settlement outside of court. Palm has not yet commented on NTP’s suit.
/sigh
It’s my company’s software, too. Actually, my division’s software.
Actually, I’m one of the ~10 devs for the server-side component.
It was scarier when we were a small company, now that a $70B company owns us I don’t think we’re so worried about NTP.
You develop for the palm?
Not me personally, I’m on the server side dev team (the equivalent of RIM’s BES [blackberry enterprise server]) that interfaces with a company’s Exchange/Domino/GroupWise/IMAP/POP/LDAP server.
I know that our palm client comes on every Verizon treo and every Nokia business phone, and there’s probably other devices, especially Verizon.
Anyway, we do pretty much exactly what RIM does, but we were too small to be sued by NTP, then we got bought out and now we’re too big.
