After almost no fanfare, Microsoft has officially launched WMP 11.

Besides the obvious eye-candy, this version logically organizes all types of media and by default provides many different views you can use to quickly drill down to the media you want. Creating playlists is an easy task, as well as search, renaming tracks, and new media discovery. The interface is clean, not clunky anymore, and clearly holds an advantage over previous versions.

I found this update really bloated, and if you are not running a Pentium 4, sluggish. However with all the new features, it is a viable iTunes competitor. But note, if you want to update to this new version you will need Windows Genuine Advantage.

The real competitor out there to anything is Foobar2000.There is no better Music Player if you ask me.

My first reaction when seeing the screenshot was to notice how much “white space” was left. This may well be a resource hog as you say but it is also definitely a screen real-estate hog.

Ah microsoft you never fail to impress us with your lack of innovation and your persistant imitations. WMP11 is iTunes’ ugly step-brother.

Best of all, will this work with Zune? Will it work with old PLayforSure crapola? What if you have both drm files and both types of players? Imagine the consumers confusion about being able to play some of his files on the Zine and others not (and vice versa). Thanks MSFT.

I used to remember the days where Microsoft would get it right by the time version 3 came-out, nowadays even the 11th version is poop in a tube.

I prefer itunes! Onthat screenshot and in the app its ok but there are much better solutions for playing your music and video files and I like vlc for videos and itunes for music.

    foobar FTW!

You just have to unpack the Setup.exe and start WMP11.exe… Then its without WGA, but you also lose some links and program associations…

u can just change your xp serial to a student serial and wga works allways
