Fix your MacBook (Pro) sleeping woes

This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.Just when I thought I had managed to escape all possible issues surrounding Apple hardware, my shiny MacBook Pro had to spit on my strawberry cheesecake.
The issue that myself, as well as a few other loyal Apple hardware fans are reporting concerns the latest 10.4.8 software update + MacBook & MacBook Pro’s. Some individuals are reporting an increased period of time required before their machines go to sleep (after closing the lid). Even more bothersome are reports that machines will wake at random times despite being closed.
I’ve experienced both of these reported issues with the amount of time required to put a machine to sleep averaging about 15-20 seconds, and the machine being toasty hot coming out of the bag due to having woken despite being securely packed into a bag [after being forced to sleep].
Forget the old “clean-install” trick. It won’t work. I tried. The issue seems to have been isolated to two system preference files which when deleted, restore the familiar instant sleep functionality.
Simply trash the following two preference files:
- -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
- -/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist–(username is your name or System Administrators name)
Once trashed, reset your notebooks PMU (Power Management Unit) – check Apple for documentation (MacBook & MacBook Pro’s). Thanks to the Support Forums as well as MacNN for pointing me towards salvation.
THANK YOU!!! I was having that exact problem with my MBP after 10.4.8…
Yes, Yes, Yes. This did not happen every time for me, but sometimes I pack up at work and get home a half hour later to a very hot notebook. Thanks for the tip.

Glad it worked. I was being to worry about my MBP. I spent too much time and hair follicles wondering why my notebook had decided to preheat my bag for cookies whenever I was moving back and forth between cafes and work.
I’m surprised Apple hasn’t issued a small update as this problem is affecting both the MB and MBP line.
I still have this issue after doing these things… very annoying.
I tried this and I am also still having this issue. Really sucks.
Worked for me. Thanks. :)
hey if you want those files back how do you get them back into your system?
Those files are recreated the next time your restart. Fresh files.
This persistent problem, along with the fact that it takes MS Word 45 seconds to open on my Intel MBP is making me wonder if I shouldn’t have bought a Dell. I’ve had about 20 Macs in my lifetime and this one is making me think of “switching.”
Davae-It takes so long since Microsoft doesn’t have Office as a Universal Binary applications yet
