Firefox 2.0 – A browser done right

Right on the heels of Microsofts official release announcement of Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla uploads the final build of Firefox 2.0 today. Head on over to the FTP servers to grab yourself a copy.

Users will notice a few usability and interface enhancements, tab improvements, session saver, inline spell checking, as well as a built in anti-phishing “technology” protection.

Out of curiosity, has anyone started using IE7 as their main browser since its release?

Hooray! And no. I actually like the old IE a HELL of a lot more.

As far as Im concerned, IE7 is dead in the water thanks to Firefox 2.0

  3. Ryan says:

    Sweet. I agree with NOGG3R5, IE7 is toast. =)

  4. PVL says:

I just installed it. Pretty nice so far. I just wish that the Black Japan theme worked with 2.0.

IE7 is attrocious. Feels and looks like a kids application. Like should be embarrased to use it in an office setting. Loaded it up here at the office and was deleted it instaneously. But i dont use the PC’s here anyways, just one of the extra PC’s.

I tried out IE7 on the day that the final build came out. I had switched back to IE6 before the day was over. I hate that they moved the address bar, stop, and refresh buttons. I hate that the Tab preferences aren’t what I have learned to love in Firefox (for example, Focus on Last Selected Tab… etc) I really hate the RSS feeds compared to FF’s. RSS Feeds can’t be on the “Links” Menu (IE’s equivalent to FF’s Bookmark Toolbar) and you have to click 2-3 times just to see what items are in the Feed Reader… UGH!

The only good thing about it is that it seemed relatively compact; very little RAM was being used and it opened and scrolled fast even on the clunkiest of websites.

  7. I’ve almost given up on Microsoft. They’re taking a while to churn out stuff…the open-source world is doing so much better. IE7 sure is toast – a nice move by Mozilla indeed.

Yeah I use IE7 on my good desktop in my kitchen. I really like the features and pages usually just work with IE… BUT I do use firefox 1.5 (I’m gonna go upgrade now) especially when Im on my old laptop in my bedroom because it is WAY faster than IE7. IE7 has some real stability issues on my old PC. It always stops responding.

  9. Roy says:

I use Firefox for 99% of my browsing. For all intents and purposes I stopped using IE about a year ago when my computer was infected by a malicious website which exploited some weakness in the browser (required me to rebuild)

Now it’s just Firefox and NoScript.

I’m with Steven Campbell, Microsoft is a reactive developer who learns about a better product and tries to race it to market, then only does a half-assed job.
