docs.google.com – Google’s web-based office materializes

Go ahead, check out docs.google.com and enjoy the combined view of two web-based applications – recently acquired Writely (re-skinned to match), and Spreadsheets. I enjoy the idea of Google – possibly – working towards a complete web-based desktop productivity environment.

Oh, and don’t bother trying to visit the site using Safari. Google is pulling the ‘ol “your browser isn’t supported” stuff that early Gmail users were forced to put up with.

What I would like to see is a mult-pane option that would allow users to view their Gmail accounts, documents, and spreadsheets from a desktop view within browsers. Sort of like Goowy, but with the simplicity of Google.

    Spell check doesn’t work in Firefox.

    That’s not a good way to start, considering Google promotes Firefox.
