Any readers affected by AOL’s data dump?

Are there any UNEASYsilence readers who were directly affected by the ridiculous data dump which AOL decided to crap out all over the net? If you are, breath a semi-sigh-of-relief knowing that a suit has been filed in California against AOL for “violating the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, plus several California consumer and advertising laws.”

The suit was filed in federal court for the Northern District of California by the law firm of Berman, DeValiero, Pease, Tabacco, Burt & Pucillo of San Francisco. It accuses AOL of violating the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, plus several California consumer and advertising laws. In seeking class action status, the suit asks for no less than $1,000 in compensation to those nationwide for violations of federal law, and an additional $4,000 in damages to those in California under the state’s own laws.

So let’s do a little math here. Because there are no actual numbers as to how many California users were affected, let’s guesstimate. The internet usage of 500,000 users flooded the tubes of the internet. Anyone bored enough to do the math for a rough settlement figure?
