Xtorrent public beta for OS X users

Posted in Apple, Cool by Derek at 2:30 pm

David Watanabe of http://www.newsfirerss.com/, Acquisiton, and Inquisitor fame, recently announced the release of a new pet project dubbed Xtorrent. OS X users can grab a limited demo of the bittorrent application directly off the Watanabe servers.

  • ultra-simple torrent search with one-click downloading (an Xtorrent original)
  • a high performance torrent core
  • detailed download information and activity monitoring
  • powerful seeding and ratio controls
  • integration with iTunes
  • folder monitoring and automatic .torrent downloading

As with all DW signed software, a small entrance fee will most likely be applied to Xtorrent. Thoughts on such a notion? Paid bittorrent downloading software? Personally, when something looks as beautiful as Xtorrent while offering features competing with current software offerings, a small price to pay wouldn’t be too hard to swallow.

For those weary of running demo software, check out my personal favorite Transmission or BitRocket.
