How the hell did we miss this?! On September 13th Mario, the Italian plumber that always finds his way into trouble, was introduced into the world 21 years ago.
His first appearance was in the Famicom game ‘Super Mario Bros.’ which was released initially only in Japan. Today, Super Mario Bros. is listed in The Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling video game of all time.
Are you sure he was in Super Mario Bros first? What about Donkey Kong, or the original Mario Bros that I had on the Atari?
Mario was introduced in the united states first in donkey kong. The character in the Japanese Donkey Kong was different and they didn’t think it would appeal to American consumers so they made Mario.
I love that game. I got a Nintendo for Christmas when I was in first grade. I was elated to have Mario to myself.
Yay, Mario can now legally drink. Too bad he can still get busted for all the shrooms he eats.
Wasn’t Donkey Kong actually starring Jumpman, which was similar to Mario, but lacking all the things that made him Mario?
Or maybe I’m just delusional.
