All the best things in life are free. Lister is a cool bit of freeware that auto-scans your computer and creates an HTML or XML list of your media. Sorted by album and artist if you want. Very useful if you want to setup a home network, or a private network to share your media.

Lister is a Windows program that will scan your cluttered collection of media files and create an orderly list of your media, sorted by artist & album, in XML format. What’s so great about that, you ask? With the generated XML file and an XSL processor you can create almost any kind of list you want.

Lister supports the file formats: mp3, mp2, MPEG, AVI, Ogg Vorbis, RealAudio, RealVideo, Microsoft Advanced Streaming Format, Microsoft Windows Media Audio, Microsoft Windows Media Video, and Twin-VQ. The raw XML really excites me, which will allow users to customize and tweak the data as they see fit.
