My Favorite Mac OSX Applications

As we all know, Mac OS X has a wealth of great third-party applications. Mac OS X probably possesses the most diverse and most well developed apps of any operating system. Every possible base is covered with at least two solutions available. Everyone has an their favourites and I’m going to list mine with a little description for each one (in no particular order).

Adium:

Adium would probably be top of my list of all time favourite apps. It’s probably the best multi-network instant messenger application available on Mac OS X. The main draw of Adium is the customisable interface. This means you can create a contact list that blends into your desktop so it isn’t as intrusive as other messenger clients such as iChat.

Transmission:

Transmission is my weapon of choice when it comes to BitTorrent. It is, in my opinion, the best-looking BitTorrent client on Mac OS X. The UI is simple to use and clearly displays all the information I want to see in one window (no matter how many torrents are running). It must be noted that due to a problem within Transmission some trackers have blocked its use until the problem is fixed.

Appzapper:

Appzapper has been one of the most hyped Mac OS X apps of the year. It is basically an uninstaller. You drag an application to the window and it and its associated files are zapped to oblivion (well, the trash can). The beauty of Appzapper is the simplicity of the concept and the execution.

VLC:

VLC is a media player with an extensive list of out of the box codecs. This is by no means my default application for my media playing needs but it serves as a backup for the occasions when the default media player is having problems playing a file or when a codec isn’t supported. VLC is also cross platform so everyone can experience the fun.

So there you go – a few of my favourite Mac OS X Applications. Why not let us know what your favourites are in the comments?

I did a list of all my applications for Windows XP, Linux and OS X:

The importance of the applications always depends on the most important *tasks* you want to get done.

The quality of the applications would be a better criteria.

    YMMV.

i have recently got a macbook, slowly getting used to it after being a windows boy all my life.

have gone and got allot of the above apps. very good, very handy.
but.. what is something good for a replacment for MS Office.
i tryed OpenOffice, but being wrapped into X11 is annoying, and it dosent work that crash hot. also tryed Neo Office but that was very slow.

does anyone have any good suggestions?

Replacement for Office on a Mac? Is there a reason you don’t want to use the MS Office Suite for Mac OS?

  8. ikonQ says:

MS Office Suite for Mac sucks :)

I only have Word, Excel and Powerpoint installed so I can view the files natively. :P
