Intel ships Merom chips

What’s that Dan? Is that the sound of your senses caving in to the idea of a Merom powered MacBook Pro?
Merom, the Core 2 Duo CPU for portables, has begun showing up in the wild today. Although it was officially launched at the same time as the desktop version of the Core 2 Duo, Conroe, Intel said that Merom would not ship until the end of August. That time is upon us as Intel has officially announced that the mobile version of the Core 2 Duo is now shipping. Laptops with the new CPUs are also available from vendors.
Check out the comparison chart between the Core Duo and the Core Duo 2 (Merom) chips are ArsTechnica. Double the L2 Cache with what looks to be the same price ceiling. Quiet updates for MacBooks and MacBook Pros? I think so. No changes on the Apple Store website as of this posting.
