1978 Ferrari racing with Google Map

A mildly amusing Google Maps + Google Video combination showcasing a gyroscope stabilized camera bumper ride through the populated streets of Paris.
“On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris.
No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.”
The video and Google Map tracking is a little off, but you get a great idea of the relation between the two.
americans used to say: AWESOME! :D
that is awesome. i love that. oh god i wish there was any place here in Los Angeles where I can drive like that, hahaha
It seemed very sync’d to me. did you click go for the map at 4 second mark of the video, like it said? becuase i did and it worked pretty good.
wow, i forgot it was 1978 for a few minutes :)
It’s not a Ferrari though…the sound was faked…Its a 70’s saloon Mercedes…it was driven by the director, Claude LeLouch, not by a formula 1 driver…and I still think it’s great…..you can check out all about this film (he had 9 mins of film left after making a full length feature so everything had to be done pretty ‘tight’) at the following site…

but you’ll need to read French..or translate it with Babelfish…there is a “making of” video..where Lelouch is driving the same streets in the same Merc…enjoy
