GetWebKit – Windows webkit browser

windows webkit browser

Does the idea of running a browser powered by the same rendering engine found in OS X Safari or Shiira – webkit – on your Windows computer sound enticing? If so, check out GetWebKit which claims to bring webkit to the Windows computing environment.

Note that the GetWebKit project looks to be related to osx86project.org. I attempted to install the browser using a virtual layer via Parallels on OS X but came up short due to a few number of installation errors: 1) browser must be installed for all users, and 2) some sort of dependancy error. If you decide to take the risk installing the Windows webkit browser with success, report back with your findings. The discussion boards seem to be a dead end for feedback.

Update: Anne has the update on how to get Swift – Windows WebKit – up and running.

Is this just for Parallels and Boot Camp users?

  2. Derek says:

No. This is a browser for Windows which uses the webkit engine. Read thoroughly. No where is Parallels mentioned.

i downloaded and installed it no problems.
it kinda limited though, deffiently worthy of the alpha name tag.
Anyway, not having a mac to compare it to right now, i cant really tell if it renders it all correctly, it probably does though.
here’s a screen shot of it:
