safaristand with no tabs

Are you browsing UNEASY via Apple’s Safari internet browser? If so, you may be interested in getting the above interface tweak. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes. Once you’ve downloaded, installed, and made a few refinements, your Safari browsing experience will be transformed forever – that or others will poke you for being an OmniWeb wannabe.

  • Download and install the free SafariStand utility. Take note of the SIMBL requirement. Fret not as both downloads and installations are pain free – granted you understand how to read directions.
  • Once installed, check out the new options under the “Stand” menu in Safari. Notice the “toggle sidebar”? If have both the thumbnail sidebar and Safari tabs is acceptable, discontinue reading. If the redundancy of tabs bothers you, continue on to the next step.
  • To remove the Safari tab bar, you’ll need to do a little Safari.app package editing, more specifically, a small edit to the browser.nib file located within the Safari.app > *.iproj folder. Emery Online walks you through the necessary edit. For the interface builder challenged, the downloadable browser.nib is a safe method as well. Just make sure to make a backup of the original. The additional tweak to the SafariStand package is not necessary.

Once completed, restart Safari and enjoy the tabbed thumbnails [sans Safari tabs if you opted to edit the Safari interface.
