Ever on the look out to waste away a little more time in order to feel a little more geek, I am constantly experimenting with different methods of booting operating systems that I may never use beyond the initial week following an installation. What can I say? I have an incurable itch to stress test my yellowing MacBook in order to see just how far I can go before a clean wipe and install is required. I’ve experimented with Boot Camp and ultimately opted instead to go with Parallels. After browsing around late last night, I stumbled upon the rEFIt project.

rEFIt is a boot menu and maintenance toolkit for EFI-based machines like the Intel Macs. You can use it to boot multiple operating systems easily, including triple-boot setups with Boot Camp. It also provides an easy way to enter and explore the EFI pre-boot environment

Rather than being somewhat limited to booting Windows XP and OS X on my MacBook, I idea of triple booting with a nice little GUI from which to select operating systems from was too much to resist. It’s like picking out candy at the Sweet Factory. If you’ve got a little time on your hands, and a full head of hair from which to pull from, give rEFIt a try. I can list a few reader who I can guarantee are all over this installation.
