Useful Useless Fact: Use a Wristwatch as a Compass

Todays Tip: Hold a watch with the 12 o’clock at the leftmost part of your hand. Move your arm so that the hour hand points at the sun. The spot halfway between the hour hand and the 12 is south. [via 08.06 Wired magazine]

    This works only in the Northern Hemisphere with watches set to standard time.

  4. Also helps to actually wear a watch, which I rarely do. Plus, I would probably have taken off my watch prior to getting into a situation where I might need to do any sort of unplanned land nav. Still, that’s pretty cool.
