meebo widgetThis has to be one of the more interesting embedded website chat solutions that I have seen thus far. Meebo users can now create a Meebo Widget which they can then embed on their own blog, social network profile, etc. Visitors on the site can chat with you directly if and when you have you are logged into your own Meebo account. Your Meebo buddy list will reflect the guests on your site requesting to chat just like any other network protocol alongside AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc.

During the setup, Meebo will require that you sign into your Meebo account (this is not your AIM, MSN, Yahoo login). From there, Meebo will provide an embed code for a flash widget suitable for your own use. The screenie to the left is a Meebo widget embedded on a *cough* MySpace profile.

I still have no idea how mySpace is the market leader in this field….. it baffles me.

    A) unreliable
    B) poor performance
    C) features are lacking
    D) loaded with ads
    E) …. you get the point

This this is very nice. I put it on my blog and myspace profile. I can look at my friends list and have a good idea of who is looking at my page that instant. I’ve had a bunch of conversations in the first day I installed it.

And why is myspace so popular?

    1) popularity, the same reason I stoped using ICQ and started using AIM. That where everyone went.
    2) ease of which they can change the design of their page, allowing the most horrible web pages since GeoCities, but people like that crap
    3) free marketing! I am promoting my new movie (www.geekinmovie.com) and I love being able to reach thousands of people directly.

I do hate the True.com ads… it almost makes the site not safe for work.
