Bush proposes new “Terror bill”

In the continuing fight against terrorism, President Bush is proposing a new Terrorist Detainee bill which would allow the government to hold suspects indefinitely.
U.S. citizens suspected of terror ties might be detained indefinitely and barred from access to civilian courts under legislation proposed by the Bush administration, say legal experts reviewing an early version of the bill. [...]
According to the draft, the military would be allowed to detain all “enemy combatants” until hostilities cease. The bill defines enemy combatants as anyone “engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners who has committed an act that violates the law of war and this statute.”
Legal experts said Friday that such language is dangerously broad and could authorize the military to detain indefinitely U.S. citizens who had only tenuous ties to terror networks like al Qaeda.
I fear that detainee’s will soon call Guantanamo Bay a permanent home away from home. Legal experts worry that innocent civilians suspected of terrorist ties may quickly loose access to civilian courts – due to the “broad scope” defining enemy combatants – escalating their situation into military control.

this is unconstitutional! everyone has the right the a fair and timely trial! 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB! look it up on the internet, the government blew up the towers with explosives. don’t take my word for it, go to http://www.seeloosechange.com and watch loose change 9/11 now!! see the lie our government has created!
Bush needs to be impeached and indicted for treason! stop the police state and martial law!
Oh Lord, FYI, Loose Change is a pretty nutball conspiracy video that has a dedicated legion of spammers (they called 4 different departments of the radio station I work at to make sure everyone sees it). Its a factually inaccurate and intentionally misleading video, and a waste of bandwidth. Lets not slow down the delivery of any more inernets through this series of tubes by dumping this off google video.
Everyone can have “Terrorist Ties”.
Have you ever done a search on Yahoo! for the word Terrorist? Have you ever checked out a Tom Clancey book at your local library? Do you own a fire arm? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you could be considered a domestic terrorist by the Bush adminstration. I cannot believe anyone still support this law breaking dictator.
Hell no, the wording of this bill makes it sound like anyone who protests can be considered a terrorist and detained.
He comprimises the constitution as well as exposing his desire to keep certain acts secret by wishing to disallow the right to civilian court.
To me, this clearly shows our Presidents disrespect towards the constitution as well as his uninterest for acting in favor of the constitution and the American people it’s meant to protect.
“Of course the people don’t want war. But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.”
– Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
“I cannot believe anyone still support this law breaking dictator. ”
Well belive it.
The constituition does not apply to those held offf shore and non-u.s. citizens so it is therefore not unconstitutional.
Here is a letter I wrote to the Armed Services Committee-
Dear Honorable . . .
It has come to my attention that President George W. Bush has introduced a bill that says that U.S. citizen “suspected” of terror ties can now be held “indefinitely”. Forget the Bill of Rights. Forget due process. Forget the courts of law.
The administration’s proposal would toss out several legal rights common in civilian and military courts, including barring hearsay evidence, guaranteeing “speedy trials” and granting a defendant access to evidence. The proposal also would allow defendants to be barred from their own trial and likely allow the submission of coerced testimony.
At best this bill would allow the kidnapping of U.S. citizens to be held and tortured indefinitely because the “suspect had a date for dinner and a movie with the cousin of a suspected terrorist. At worst it gives the Bush Administration cart blanch to eradicate dissenters. Anyone can be a “Suspect.
There is a particular kind of decent that is spreading rapidly throughout the U.S. and the world. It is a decent that if I were a member of this Administration I would find particularly threatening and would want stopped at all costs.
We have samples of once molten metal from the World Trade Center wreckage that contains sulfur. Steel does not contain sulfur. When you add sulfur to Thermite it becomes Thermate. Thermate is a patented product used in cutter charges by demolition companies to slice through steel like a hot knife through butter. Sulfur could have only been found in the samples if the patented Thermate was used on September 11, 2001. I repeat, we have these samples. They are the fingerprints of Controlled Demolition.
There is very good reason why the Bush Administration tried to block an investigation into 9/11. There is good reason why a man like Zelikow was appointed to head of The 9/11 Commission. There is also good reason why the collapse of Building 7 and the 47 inner core columns of each tower were omitted from The 9/11 Commission Report. If you have been following the movement at all, you know that I have just scratched the surface.
We as a movement want a new independent investigation into 9/11.
Please let it be known that we are no small group. There are millions of us ranging from Physicists and Engineers to Domestic Engineers. Additionally we are not centralized. That is to say that since September 2001, questioning people forming groups have organically developed crossing all political, sociological and ethnic lines. We were more that dissatisfied with the 9/11 Commission and have been doing our own investigations. What we have collectively discovered through research, trial and disseminating misinformation from verifiable fact is astounding and frankly horrifying. More and more citizens are being enlightened every day.
I hope you can understand my legitimate concern that the target of this “Terror Bill is not al-Qaeda, but in fact any dissenter this Administration finds terrifying.
I submit to you the distinct possibility that it is not some outside Terrorist or al-Qaeda who “hates our freedom and our way of life, but our very own President and his closest staff. If our findings are correct, and I believe that they are, we are talking about High Treason and Misprision. 9/11 was not some little false flag operation that went too far. I firmly believe that this Administration would stop at nothing to divert a truly independent investigation into the events of 9/11/01. If there should be an attempt by this administration to use this new law to eradicate dissenters the effect on the population would be disastrous. Do not pass a law which could change this country into another Cambodia and Bush into Poll Pot.
You may hold the opinion that I am being dramatic. Yet try for a moment to be open to our position. Again, there are millions of us. If President Bush directly or indirectly caused the deaths of 3,000 civilians for a political objective like a “New Pearl Harbor, if he adds signing statements to bills limiting torture that exclude him, if there are secret prisons in Europe, what is to keep him from using this law to squash the true patriots who are fighting for this country every day.
Even if the attacks on 9/11 were committed by 19 Arab men led by a man in a cave and pixies injected sulfur into the molten metal at ground 0, it is inexcusable for you to pass a bill which so obviously breaks your solemn oath to uphold and defend the constitution.
Again, do not pass this law.
Sincerely,
