Better passwords on your Mac

Nothing is better then random right? Picking a good password is an important part of keeping your system safe and your information private. Good passwords are impossible to guess and difficult to crack, but they can also be hard to think up. For the longest time I have been using GRC to randomly generate all my passwords, however it becomes a problem when I have no network access.

Apple, since the launch of Tiger has had a WONDERFUL little random password application called Password Assistant. The Mac OS X password assistant can help you come up with a secure password instantly, however this utility is REALLY buried in the MacOS.

However, there is a nifty little program that evokes Apple’s built in password generator at your whim. Perfect for ensuring you have the strongest passwords available. Certainly worth a download, and of course it is a universal binary.

the only problem now will be trying to recall what you have set your perfectly random password to

You can get to Apple’s Password Assistant easily by going into System Prefs–>Accounts–>Change Password–>then click on the Key Icon.

I’d rather do that than download more software, but that’s just me.

That seems like thats too much work cerisier. I’m fine with this application.

Or for about 1/10000000 the effort you could just randomly pound on the keyboard and have a random password as long as you like. I know, not the most high tech way around, but certainly the best solution for us lazy people.
