On July 6th, Microsoft unvieled a private file syncing solution allowing users to encrypt personal files from prying eyes. Oddly enough, after 10 brief days, Microsoft has pulled the plug on the privacy solution. Thanks Michael!

Microsoft Private Folder 1.0 was unveiled on 6 July, and was available only to users participating in verification of their Windows XP install via the controversial Windows Genuine Advantage system.

The tool could be used to create a secure, encrypted ‘My Documents’ folder to which only the local end user would have access.

But the company has removed the Private Folder software from its downloads section over the past few days following an apparent torrent of concern from network administrators.

We all know what the real reason is for Microsoft pulling the utility download from public access right? No access to Windows users files means no fun for Microsoft. Right? Or is my brash feelings towards Microsoft showing through too much? And to think, I was fairly supportive of Microsoft’s decision to support personal file encryption. Tsk tsk.
