Raise the white flag, Apple drops lawsuits against PowerPage & AppleInsider for product leaks

In an apparent victory, Apple Computer has dropped its legal challenge against two Internet publishers who reported secret details about its new products.

This case was particularly important because Apple had been arguing to force the sites to revel the identities of the Apple staff who passed trade secrets to them. However the PowerPage argued that they had a First Amendment right to protect the confidentiality of their sources, which the US courts agreed with.

Apple has failed to establish that it adequately pursued other possible means to identify the source of the information in question.” The company was not permitted to take a short cut through a journalist to uncover its own internal leak.

Is this a victory for Bloggers rights, or just a case of a Blogger going too far by revealing details that they should have never had?
